Milwaukee — Veteran, pastor-turned-podcaster, and Transform U Media Network founder Marcus Hart is releasing a new episode of Transform U: Veteran Stories this week, and it’s one of the most personal he’s recorded: the story of the church he served for five years turning him away at the exact moment he needed grace the most.
The church I gave five years of my life to is the same church that slammed the door on me the moment I actually needed grace, Hart says in the episode, titled The Church Rejected Me When I Needed Grace Most. From 2012 to 2017, Hart ministered at a Baptist church in Milwaukee. In 2017, when he faced legal trouble serious enough that it could have ended in a life sentence, the community he had served for half a decade pushed him out instead of standing beside him.
The episode is part of Hart’s growing Transform U: Veteran Stories series, which sits squarely in the veteran, PTSD, and faith-driven trauma-healing lane that has become the signature of his show. Rather than staying bitter, Hart describes a season of genuine spiritual wandering, through Law of Attraction thinking, New Age ideas, and even a season in Catholicism, before landing back in a steadier, non-denominational Christian faith.
God didn’t leave when that door closed, Hart says. People did. Those are not the same event.
The episode is aimed squarely at veterans, and anyone else, who have felt rejected by the very people or institutions that were supposed to catch them, offering a raw, first-person account of what that kind of rejection does to a person’s faith and how Hart found his way back to something steadier than what he lost. The full episode is available now on the Transform U YouTube channel and wherever the Transform U! Live Show podcast is heard.
