Marcus Hart made a real commitment on this week’s livestream: the certified letters to seven Wisconsin offices over the Aug. 17 State Fair incident go in the mail Friday. “Friday, I quote you, Friday,” he said on air.
The letters, drafted in August, request a State Fair after-action report from seven offices: Wisconsin State Fair Park, the Governor’s office, the Milwaukee County Executive, the West Allis Mayor, West Allis PD, the West Allis alderperson for the State Fair district, and the Wisconsin Attorney General’s Office of Open Government.
Why they haven’t gone out yet
The holdup has never been complicated: certified mail for seven separate pieces costs real money, and that cost kept pushing the mailing back. “Everything is expensive,” Marcus said. “Imagine trying to factor that into your budget.”
That changes this week. Once the letters are actually postmarked, the real 15-business-day clock for a response starts, not before. Urban News Journal has held off on any countdown language until the letters are confirmed mailed, and will keep doing so.
What’s still open
Two related threads remain unresolved. The press inquiry to Wisconsin State Fair Park has gone unanswered for over a month. The inquiry to West Allis PD bounced back in August and still hasn’t been successfully resent. A direct phone call to the Milwaukee County Executive’s office resulted in ten minutes on hold before being redirected back to the same email inbox that has already gone unanswered.
“I’m not calling that corruption,” Marcus said. “But I’m calling it exactly what it is: offices that are built to slow you down without ever technically telling you no.”
What happens next
Once the letters are confirmed mailed, Urban News Journal will report the actual postmark date and begin tracking the 15-business-day window for a response. Follow this thread, and check back Friday for confirmation.
