“I came home from war and I lost more than I lost in it,” Hart says in the latest episode of his show, Transform U: Veteran Stories. He is candid about what followed: PTSD, an inability to hold onto the job he’d counted on, and years of choices he says he still isn’t proud of. “If I clean it up, it stops being useful to you,” he says. “Real hard years. That’s the truth.”

Years later, life caught up with him a second way: legal trouble in 2017 serious enough it could have ended in a life sentence. It didn’t. Hart served a year in jail, where he got involved in prison ministry, counseling other inmates before he’d finished processing his own situation. But he’s clear that the jail time isn’t where the real change happened. “The real transformation didn’t happen where people could see it,” he says. “It happened in the quiet” — during probation, with no audience and no highlight reel.

That message is the anchor of Transform U: Veteran Stories, the recurring series Hart is building on his YouTube show to reach veterans, change-seekers, and anyone rebuilding after a season nobody was watching. “Coming home broken doesn’t disqualify you from coming back whole,” Hart says in the episode. “Grace found me in a jail cell and it kept working on me long after anybody was watching. It’ll do the same for you, if you let it.”

The full episode, “I Came Home From War Broken — Here’s How Grace Rebuilt Me,” is available now on the Transform U: Veteran Stories YouTube channel, with deeper writing on faith, veterans, and healing at Hart’s Warrior Mandate newsletter.
