LeBron James Signs With the 76ers — And Steph Curry’s Contract Clock Is Ticking

UNJ LIVE — Monday, August 17, 2026
Watch: UNJ LIVE, Monday, August 17, 2026

Watch Marcus Hart’s full sports breakdown from Monday’s UNJ LIVE below.

MILWAUKEE — LeBron James is officially a Philadelphia 76er. The 41-year-old signed a two-year, $8 million deal with Philadelphia, joining Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown as he chases what would be a fifth championship ring.

“That man is not chasing a check,” Urban News Journal founder Marcus Hart said on Monday’s broadcast. “Eight million dollars, that’s like $8 to him. The ring chase is on.”

The question UNJ is putting to its audience: is Philadelphia a legitimate title contender with James in the fold, or is this another star-studded gamble that falls short? “We’ve seen that movie before,” Hart said.

Curry’s Warriors Deal Runs Out After This Season

While James’s move dominates headlines, Hart says the more consequential story in the NBA this offseason is quieter: Stephen Curry’s contract with the Golden State Warriors expires after the coming season.

“His deal with Golden State runs out after this season,” Hart said. “Here’s what I’m calling this, plain and clear: the loyalty test.”

Curry, a four-time NBA champion who has spent his entire career with Golden State, now faces a decision point that could define how his tenure with the franchise ends. “Does he get one more max contract and get to retire a Warrior? Or does this get messy?” Hart said.

UNJ Wants to Hear From You

Hart posed both storylines directly to viewers Monday night: Is LeBron’s move to Philadelphia genius or desperation? And does Golden State make good on paying Curry for one more run?
